A failed mission
I’m haven’t been a Facebook user for years, but about six weeks ago, a family member’s recent posts appeared in my inbox. One of them featured US Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson’s comments relative to pro-Palestine campus protests involving Mahmoud Khalil. Johnson’s comment appeared to equate Khalil with “aspiring young terrorists.” (Johnson is a committed Christian Zionist). The author of the second article asked rhetorically why it was that Israel had generated more UN human rights complaints than what he presumably considered to be real baddies like Iran and North Korea for example. My relative’s succinct response to the latter and apparent explanation for Israel’s chart-topping “performance” in terms of UN complaints was a dismissive “Corrupt UN”.
I was flabbergasted. It was a classic non se qui tur. How was it possible to so quickly dismiss Israel’s wretched record of human rights abuses and war crimes? I had to conclude that in this case, my relative’s deference to Israel, no matter how egregious its record, wasn’t a matter of hard facts. Rather it was a matter of religious orthodoxy for members of the Christian Zionist community. He was far from alone in his see-no-Israeli-evil stance. In fact, most members of my immediate family are somewhere on the spectrum of adherence to Christian Zionism (as are millions of evangelical Christians in North America and far beyond). The incident did confirm something for me. I now had to face the fact that my informal campaign to convince family that the unholy Christian-Zionism marriage was profoundly problematic had failed.
Ten years ago, when I first began trying to open eyes to the dangers in Christian Zionism within my family, I wouldn’t have guessed it would be such a difficult undertaking. I was, after all, raised in the same religious environment and exposed to the same teaching and interpretations of biblical prophecy for more than 50 years. My error was naively assuming that what was visible to me was visible to others and they would be willing to apply the litmus test described in the book of Matthew. Essentially, it declares that false prophets can be recognized by their “fruits” given that bad trees produce bad fruit while good trees produce good fruit. It seemed clear to me at least that the Zionist “tree” was consistently yielding bad fruit.
At some point, the contradictions had become too much for me. I could no longer look the other way and indulge Israel’s deep-seated anti-God, anti-Christian, anti-human aggressions. My more recent research into the hidden history of Khazarian-Ashkenazi lineage and the genetics of modern day Jews didn’t support the notion they were the descendants of biblical Hebrews. So, at that point, Israel’s claims to a biblical heritage and Eretz Israel amounted to a scam, based on falsification of identity. Not coincidentally, I suspect, “name stealing” was a specialty that the so-called Khazarian Mafia mastered in their day. And their Ashkenazi successors’ claim to be “semites” follows from this deception.
Christian Zionism — what, who and how it misreads scripture
What is Christian Zionism? A 2022 Factsheet published by researchers at Inform, a self-described “independent educational charity providing information about minority religions and sects” states: “Christian Zionism is a belief system without a formal structure. However, there exist high-profile leaders and established bodies that seek to represent the views, aims and objectives of Christian Zionists. These include:
- The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ)
- Christians United for Israel (CUFI)
- International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (they are not, strictly speaking, Christian Zionist but rather a Jewish organisation that seeks evangelical Christian support, including financial, for the state of Israel)
- John Hagee, chairman of CUFI and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church, Texas
- Jerry Falwell (1933-2007), founder of the Moral Majority
- Tim LaHaye (1926-2016), co-author of the Left Behind fiction series, and founder of the Pre-Trib Research Center (PTRC)
- Pat Robertson, chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN)”
While the doctrinal emphasis may vary, a defining feature of Christian Zionists is their common beliefs and understanding concerning particular verses of the bible. Charles Veenstra lists the following five common beliefs.
- God made an eternal and unconditional covenant with Abraham promising him land (believed to be today’s geographic Israel)
- While biblical Israel rejected Jesus, God’s plan for its redemption remains intact. Thus following the rapture of the church, Israel will become God’s primary agent in the world.
- Christians today must take Genesis 12:3 literally and bless Israel if they want God to bless their nations.
- The prophetic books of the bible are describing events of today and don’t primarily apply to events in biblical times. The appropriate interpretation of biblical prophesy enables us to see foresee future world events.
- Israel is the catalyst in the “end times” countdown leading to the civilizational upheaval, rise of evil, war and emergence of the anti-Christ.
Christian Zionists view Jews as God’s chosen people — the spiritual and genetic descendants of biblical Hebrews. Thus, they are considered the rightful inheritors or the geographic Israel established in 1948. According to Gary Burge (“Why I am not a Christian Zionist“), they also believe that “The birth of Israel has set the stage for the imminent second coming of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Zionists claim, any national agenda that would impede God’s plan, any peace plan that weakens Israel’s hold on the land, or any decision that stands in the way of this dramatic stage-setting is not a plan blessed by God.”
Space doesn’t permit a detailed critique of Christian Zionist beliefs. Suffice to say, mainstream Christians read scripture, interpret prophetic statements and see Judaism and modern day Israel differently. George O’Neill says the mis- reading of Genesis 12:2-3 dates back to 1917. It reads: “God made a covenant with Abraham, promising his descendants a legacy. O’Neill goes on to say however, that the covenant was fulfilled In Jesus.Galatians 3:9 says: “It is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.” A Christian podcaster who goes by the name of Captain Kyle counters Israel’s false claim to the promise of Abraham by simply saying “Israel is a people (the body of true believers), not a place.”
Christians who share Captain Kyle’s view do not have their faith tied to the future of the State of Israel as Christian Zionists do. It follows that they also are not committed to unconditional support for it’s policies or its conduct.
The infiltration and growth of Christian Zionism
How did Christian Zionism take root and grow into a political force? Gordon Duff, someone Benjamin Fulford calls “a White Hat Honcho”, describes the infiltration of Zionism as “religious subversion” Duff goes on to describe what he calls “the religious subversion architecture that supports it.”
He points to the Scofield Reference Bible (1917), “a document funded and distributed by Zionist-aligned interests in the early 20th century. American evangelical Christianity was deliberately weaponized and inverted. The goal: reframe Christian theology into a militarized, Zionist-friendly, apocalyptic force that would both serve geopolitical agendas and spiritually sterilize the American conscience.
The result? Christianity in the US was satanized — its compassion redirected toward war, its mysticism gutted, its language hijacked by corporate prophecy networks. The Church, once a threat to technocratic occultism, became it’s useful host.” (from Benjamin Fulford newsletter)
It’s not difficult to imagine how dispensationalist Christian Zionism spread and grew via religious training institutions and their graduates. There are approximately 34 evangelical training institutions in Canada and more than 250 in the U.S. according to Wikipedia. Their graduates, numbering in the thousands, went on to pastor churches, lead youth groups, raise families, write books, produce films, host TV shows and otherwise promote Zionism-infused Christianity. Still others assumed positions of leadership in para-church organizations, start businesses (including some specializing in tourism to the “Holy Land”) and serve in political office.
One writer, Hal Lindsey, described as “The Father of apocalyptic Zionism” and “a long haired reincarnation of Scofield” authored 18 books, with at least one published in 54 languages. More than 35 million copies of his books were sold worldwide. His first, The Late Great Planet Earth was published in 1970. Five films in the Left Behind movies series were produced along with and two spin offs set within a Christian Zionist interpretation of “end times” and targeting the conservative Christian demographic.
Supporting Israel in pursuit of an elusive blessing
The candidness of conservative Christian Zionists serving in the US Congress and current administration regarding their beliefs is helpful. It reveals how a misinterpretation of the bible can inform their positions on issues in the Middle East. Baptist minister, Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, is perhaps the most prominent, but far from the only Christian Zionist in the Republican party and the current administration. His response to a question at his confirmation hearing illustrates how his theology is intertwined with his political stance as it relates to Eretz Israel.
Huckabee said: “The spiritual connections between…many churches in America, Jewish congregations, to the state of Israel is because we ultimately are people of the book.” …“We believe the Bible, and therefore that connection is not geopolitical. It is also spiritual.”
A recent interview with conservative congressman, Ted Cruz, is more revealing. The article goes on to say that the journalist, Tucker Carlson asked Cruz about his support for the State of Israel. Cruz, incidentally, is “referred to as ‘Tel Aviv Ted’ by critics given the fact “he has long been a strong advocate for bombing Iran in support of Israel, and this interview went out shortly before Trump actually did in fact bomb Iran in support of Israel.” Cruz explained his support for Israel as follows:
I came into Congress 13 years ago with the stated intention of being the leading defender of Israel in the United States’ Senate; I’ve worked every day to do that.
As a Christian growing up in Sunday School I was taught from the Bible that ‘those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed’ – and, from my perspective, I want to be on the blessing side of things’’
Steve Bannon, host of The War Room, had this to say regarding Cruz’s statement: “It was one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever heard by a grown man, Ted Cruz, who professes to be a Christian. The New Testament is called the New Testament for a reason. It’s not about helping Israel. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, is the New Covenant.”
I wonder if Ted Cruz and like-minded Christian Zionists have ever done an evaluation of the CZ-Israel relationship and asked themselves what specific blessings have accrued to the United States and the world after decades of “blessing” Israel. Does Israel’s 1967 attack on the USS Liberty count? (sarcasm). What about the rumoured Zionist Israeli links to the death of JFK, 9/11, multiple wars and more recently, the Covid vaxx biowar on humanity?
America has been a committed blesser of Israel. It donates $3 billion in US taxpayer dollars to Israel annually. America has dipped deeply into its most precious resources — tens of thousands of young men and women sent to fight wars on Israel’s behalf. That contribution however has yet to satiate Zionist blood lust. Israel has in fact worked overtime in recent years to drag the US into new wars. And its launched attacks in the last two years on Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Hezbollah and Gaza where it appears to be engaged in a genocidal ethnic cleansing campaign.
Sorry Messrs Huckabee and Cruz, I’m not finding a positive return on the many blessings America continues to bestow on Israel. This relationship between America and Israel is far from mutualism. It is rather, a parasitic one. Why is this not now obvious to Christian Zionists? And why doesn’t it prompt a re-thinking of the relationship? Do you have any idea of the mayhem and darkness you and your like-minded friends are enabling?
